Lactation for Nonbirthing Parents

Whether you’re an adoptive parent, trans mom or dad, nonbinary parent, or exploring co-lactation/co-nursing, you’ve got options! Find out what’s possible with a 30-minute information session tailored to your needs and questions. Discussion may include:
Inducing Lactation
Find out about current protocols for inducing lactation: what's involved, what to expect, and how to define your own success.
Trans moms
Transgender women who take hormone therapy develop healthy, functional breast tissue with the potential to produce milk for their infants. Lactation induction protocols have proven successful for trans women who wish to breastfeed or bodyfeed their babies. While it may not be possible to produce a full supply, every drop of human milk is beneficial, and the parent-infant bonding achieved through breast or bodyfeeding provides long-term physical and mental health benefits for both parents and babies.

Donor Milk and Human Milk Substitutes
Any amount of human milk is beneficial to babies, and when a full supply is not possible, there are options for supplementation. Find out about milk banks, milk sharing, and formula.
Trans dads and nonbinary parents
Depending on the type of top surgery, trans dads may be able to produce human milk to feed their babies. A full supply is not necessarily the goal - even drops of human milk are beneficial to babies, and the bonding and nurturing inherent in the act of bodyfeeding or chestfeeding have innumerable benefits for both parents and babies
